Join us to support accessibility in the arts!
ART IS FOR EVERYONE.
MindsEye launched our 2017 Audio Description Campaign "Art Is For Everyone" on Friday, August 4th through the Arts and Education Council's crowdfunding platform.
Will you help us reach our goal?
It's imperative that we work together so that ANYONE with a visual-impairment can still "See a Play!"
MindsEye translates vision into audio.
We have been committed to connecting those who are visually-impaired to the news and entertainment they need for over 40 years through our 24-hour radio broadcasts. We began our Audio Description project in the fall of 2016, and we have trained over 20 describers who are working with us to build our program and to create a more accessible Saint Louis.
By supporting MindsEye’s Audio Description program, you are not just providing access to the arts, you’re also committing to building a diverse, vibrant, and inclusive community. MindsEye’s audio description means that every person who attends a theater production or exhibit, regardless of visual impairment, has the chance to enjoy a rewarding experience.
This service transforms the experience for a person with visual-disabilities. It takes it from a potentially confusing and isolating event, to one of full enjoyment. One of the most important things that a patron with sight loss gains from audio description is the ability to visualize the images of artwork and the movements of dance and theatre - and then to participate in conversations about the production or piece alongside their sighted peers. Andrew Adolphson, who is blind, loves the theatre and through audio description, he can hear action, sight gags, and imagine the elaborate costumes worn by the performers. His mother Ann says, “We can enjoy a show together as a family because of audio description.”
Funds raised will extend audio description to up to three theatre companies that are not currently offering this service for their entire season along with purchasing additional equipment and upkeeping current equipment and providing continuing education for audio describers so they can create the best experiences for their patrons. Audio description creates accessibility so anyone can just go and check out the new exhibit at a museum with their friends or catch opening night of the latest Broadway buzzed production or experience the world of media and art for both education and leisure. It’s access to all the moments that most of us just take for granted.
Please commit to accessibility and support MindsEye’s mission to translate vision into audio for the Greater Saint Louis Area.
When you support MindsEye by donating $50 or more, our fantastic team of describers will provide LIVE AUDIO DESCRIPTION via Facebook on Thursday, August 31st to a video of YOUR LIFE. Submit a video of ANYTHING (PG 13) in your world that is 90 seconds or less and we’ll provide key descriptive elements during a Facebook Live event on the last day of our fundraising campaign. Share a video of you cooking, playing music with your band, or perhaps you have the cutest and most hilarious clip of your pets and grandkids. Whatever the action – we’ll describe it. The video will be published to our page so that you can access it anytime you want; you’ll be able to share your audio described life with your friends and family and show your support of MindsEye.
