MindsEye’s own nationally competitive BeepBall team, the Gateway Archers, is well into their first full season! The team formed in 2020, but due to COVID-19 was only able to participate in one NBBA (National Beep BaseBall Association) tournament. During the off-season the Archers continued to practice, including a spring training day with the 4-time World Champion Indy Thunder team. The 2021 season began in early June with the Indy Bonanza Invitational tournament in Indianapolis.
Two new players, Kyle Borah #95 and Richie Krussel #28, joined the team this year. While Kyle has played in many MindsEye BeepBall fundraising tournaments, this will be his first professional season. Richie Krussel is a Beepball veteran, having played the last few years with the Indy Edge. According to Head Coach Mike Curtis, “We are super excited to have him playing for his hometown and to be a part of this team going forward. He’s going to be a tremendous asset for the Archers being competitive and will help grow the program here in St. Louis.” Both Kyle and Richie were named to the 2021 Indy Bonanza All-Star Defensive Team, an honor that went to the six best defenders of the tournament.
This year’s Gateway Archers captains are Kim Blumenthal #19, Chad Dillon #5, and Richie Krussel. Dillon is also a new member of the MindsEye Board of Directors.
