Meet Lisa Muelleman, MindsEye’s 2021 Broadcast Information Program Volunteer of the year! Laura caught up with Lisa after the Volunteer Appreciation event and got to ask her a little bit about herself and her time with MindsEye.

Laura: When did you start volunteering for MindsEye? How did you learn about us?

Lisa: So, I started volunteering at MindsEye back in 2010, for Christmas in 2009 my then-husband and I were living in Illinois and I had heard about the Way of Lights Christmas show there at the Shrine so we went, thoroughly enjoyed the display and it was then that I noticed the sign outside the station telling about MindsEye and what the station does. I was intrigued so I applied online, came in for a brief tour and audio test and the rest is history. At first, I was a substitute reader, I did several different shows, and even once did the Morning News Live which was a little nerve-wracking for me….

Laura: What program do you read now? What do you like best about it?

Lisa: After a couple of years I started doing my own program based on the Go! magazine insert in the STL Post Dispatch newspaper, that lasted a while but didn’t have a great time slot or following so Tom asked if I’d like to take over “Eating in St Louis” which at that time didn’t have a permanent reader, and…I did! It was the best decision, I love reading all about the food scene here in STL and the surrounding area, I have always had a love for food and cooking so this program was a perfect fit.

Laura: How does it feel to be singled out as an outstanding MindsEye volunteer?

Lisa: It was so surprising and humbling and just the best validation of my love for doing this. I so enjoy recording my program, it’s more than just providing the information from the magazines, I’ve been doing it long enough now that I recognize the names, I feel like I know the people, and I feel connected to the food scene around here, and it’s my hope that the people listening to my program can hear that in my voice, my love and conviction to bringing them the foodie news and my love for this eclectic food scene we have going.

Laura: What do you do outside of MindsEye volunteering?

Lisa: I work at Mercy Virtual doing remote ICU monitoring, I’ve worked there since 2006 and it has been an ever-changing, growing nursing field. When I’m not working I enjoy gardening, canning the results of my garden, cooking, reading, crafting, and what takes the most of my time right now is keeping up with my 2 puppies.

Laura: What do you read for fun?

Lisa: When I have time to read for fun I enjoy mysteries, a bit of romance, Syfy, truly a wide range of books.

Laura: What are your favorite pizza toppings?

Lisa: Well that will always and forever be pepperoni!! And since I am not from this area,  don’t even think about putting that weird provel anywhere near my pizza!! LOL

Thanks so much, Lisa, for all you do for MindsEye and our listeners! Leave a comment below to give Lisa a big congratulations!
